The Story Behind Chip in Fore Charity
Back in 1998, Sacramento developer Chris Steele saw an opportunity to raise funds for children's non-profit organizations in the greater Sacramento area. With just one golf course, he held the first Chip in Fore Charity.
From the success of that first tournament sprang the concept of bringing several
charity golf tournaments together under a single banner. Now in its 10th year, the popular event has grown to encompass 6 golf courses
holding events simultaneously: Apple Mountain, Catta Verdera Country Club, Coyote Moon, Empire Ranch, Teal Bend, and Turkey Creek!
This is now the largest single day event in the entire Sacramento region.
Chip in Fore Charity handles event organization and operates without any overhead expenses. These combined efforts result in greater net income for the children's charities. In the past non-profits would "rent" a course for an event, and that expense alone would make it difficult for them to break even. It is significant to note that 100% of the proceeds from this tournament solely benefit children in the community.
The Golf Classic held each June at the 6 courses is a Shotgun Tournament. The Golf-A-Thon is held in the morning for sponsored golfers, each raising $1500 to take a seat in the morning event with all proceeds going to the designated children's charity.

"From a business standpoint, this is one of the best charitable
contributions you can make. The organization relies on donations. Steele and his partners have
donated 6 golf
courses and their staff members.
Many vendors and consultants are also donating time to facilitate this annual event. Goals for 2008 are to raise over $1 million to benefit
local children's charities."
